The Association is governed by a voluntary executive group of officers -- the Board of Directors – whom are elected by a majority vote at the annual membership meeting once each year. The Board consists of the Association president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and handicap director, and the website administrator, all of whom share duties and responsibilities for the operation of the Association. The Association is established as a non-profit corporation in New Mexico and has documented bylaws that define NESGA’s operations.

Michael R. Baca has been the president of NESGA  since 2018. He oversees the day to day operations of the organization, is the point of contact with golf courses for contracting tournaments, maintains the non-profit corporate status with the State of New Mexico, and serves as NESGA tournament director. Pete Sandoval is the vice president of NESGA. Prior to joining NESGA, he worked as a program manager for a major aerospace company, here in Albuquerque. After retiring in 2011, he began playing more golf and that’s when he met up with Dennis Martinez, who he'd worked with years before.  Dennis, at the time, was president of NESGA and he asked if he would like join the league. 

 

Pete joined in 2012 and a few years later, Dennis asked if he would take over the position of handicap chairman.  He was voted in as handicap chairman in 2013, and remained until 2019 when he was voted in as vice president. Until recently, he served as an officer on two golf leagues.  Besides Vice President of NESGA, he also served as treasurer for nine hole senior’s league.  He currently works as a volunteer at Paradise Hills Golf course and previously at the UNM Championship golf course.

David Castillo - Treasurer​​​​​​​

David Castillo is the treasurer for NESGA. He has served in that capacity since 2019 and joined NESGA in 2009. The treasurer is the primary signature for authorizing payments from the NESGA's bank account, whether by check or other method of payment. The treasurer is responsible for accounting all revenues, expenditures, receivables and payables for the association.

Renae Baca - Secretary & Tournament Director​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Renae J. Baca, is the secretary and handicap director.  As Secretary, her responsibilities include contacting prospective new members and communicating Association information, which includes membership application forms, tournament schedules, general membership information, and minutes of any Association meetings. She collects the membership dues from new and renewing members and maintains the membership roll.

 

As handicap director, she is the point of contact with Sun Country Golf Association and handles all issues regarding the members’ GHIN handicaps, including activating and inactivating handicaps, and resolving any issues that may arise with a member’s GHIN status or recorded scores.  Part of these responsibilities also include helping to educate members, who are new to the GHIN handicap system, on exactly how a golf handicap is established and maintained.

 

She has been with NESGA since 2018, but has been playing golf in New Mexico since 1983.  She's belonged to many different golf associations in Albuquerque over the years and in the past have served as tournament director for the Santa Ana Women’s Golf Association. From 2007 until 2019, she worked at the Paa-ko Ridge Golf Course and served as the president/tournament director of the Paa-ko Ridge Golf Association.

Jose Ramirez - Website Administrator

Jose Ramirez joined NESGA in 2022 and in 2023, he volunteered to create and maintain NESGA's website for the benefit of all its current and future members. Subsequently, he was elected to the NESGA board by the membership in January 2024 as the website administrator (WA). As the WA, he is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining the NESGA website by ensuring its functionality, usability, and visual appeal. This includes making design changes as necessary, posting content, and working with the web hosting provider to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize website speed and performance.

 

The WA assists with implementing online marketing strategies developed by NESGA to attract new members. The WA also provides technical support, site maintenance, monthly backups, training, and is the liaison to the hosting provider to ensure web security and continuity. He worked with input from the board to create a site that was user-friendly and informative. He is an avid golfer and belongs to several other golfing associations.
